FAQs About the Program |
| Where can I find the Quick Design Guide? |
| You can view, download and/or print the user manual for the My Book Of Photos software with the following link www.mybookofphotos.com/image/Quick_Design_Guide.pdf It will answer a host of questions and show you how to use several features of the design software. |
|
| How do I install the software? |
| Go to www.mybookofphotos.com and click on the download button. When asked, choose 'Save'
After you have downloaded the software, click on the My Book Of Photos Icon on your desktop. |
|
| How many photos can I insert in a project? |
As many as you like. The default boxes you see are examples that you can resize to suit your own needs. You can do so as follows: Select an image box or text field and click on one of the handles (the small white squares on the edges). Drag the mouse to size the picture to the desired size. As you resize the picture, its proportions remain the same. In other words, when you change the horizontal, the vertical changes at the same time. The picture keeps the same shape only smaller or larger. |
|
| How many photos can I insert in my book design order? |
A minimum of 20 photos, when designing a soft or hard cover book. The maximum is as many as you would like. You can also choose the number of pages yourself, from 21 to 100 pages per project.
NOTE: Do not place too many pictures on one page because they will be too small to view. |
|
| How many photos can I insert in my calendar design order? |
There are three different calendars to choose from.
. 12 Month Calendar: you can add 1 photo per page or create a montage of pictures per page.
. Anniversary Calendar: you can add a total of 36 pictures (one picture on the cover and 3 pictures on each monthly page.) You can also place 1 small thumbnail picture next to all the dates which would signify that a special event is taking place for that particular person(s).
. 12 Month Deluxe Wall Calendar: you can add a total of 14 pictures (one for the cover, one at the top of each monthly page and one on the back of the calendar.)
|
|
| What is the maximum photo size I can use? |
| We advise you to use photo files with a maximum size of 3 MB.
If the photo files are too large, it can cause problems when you send us your project. |
|
| What format must the photo be in order to use it within my project? |
| Pictures must be in JPEG format and RGB Color mode.
JPEG stands for 'Joint Photographic Experts Group.' JPEG, also known as JPG, has become the standard in digital camera imaging because the format is able to record a very high quality image while still having a very compact file size.
RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue. The combination of these three primary colors represents a full color spectrum. |
|
| Can I change my choice of product while creating the product? |
No, you specify your choice of product at the start of the process.
If, once you have started, you wish to change to another product, there are two options:
1. click on 'New' in the menu at the top of the screen or
2. choose 'Create new product' when you restart the software.
In either case you must begin again. |
|
| FAQs Using the program, editing pictures and text. |
| How do I delete an image box or text box? |
| Right click on the box to be deleted.
Now select 'Delete'. Both the photo / text and the box / field will now be deleted or select the box to be deleted and use the delete key on your keyboard. |
|
| Are page numbers automatically inserted in my photo project? |
| No. MyBookOfPhotos software does not insert page numbers automatically. You can create page numbers yourself in a small text box you place wherever you would like on each page. |
|
| Can I edit a photo? |
Yes! To edit your photos or backgrounds, double click on photo or background, or right click on the photo and select 'Edit' from the pop up menu. This opens the 'Edit image' window in which you will see a variety of functions and effects with which you can improve or edit the quality of your photo and adapt it to your own wishes.
Some of the things you can do from the Edit Window are:
A-correct red eye.
B-convert the photos to a negative, sepia, red or green tint, black and white.
C-flip the photos vertically or horizontally.
E-apply a 'drawing', 'water color' or an 'embossed' effect to your photos.
--As well as many other custom effects. That is why we call it My Book Of Photos. "You're in control!"
For a more expanded explanation download the 'Quick Design Guide.' Get the guide at: www.mybookofphotos.com/image/Quick_Design_Guide.pdf |

Yes. The steps are as follows:
1. Right click on the photo in question.
2. Select 'Properties'
3. Uncheck 'Lock aspect ratio'. |
|
| What does aspect ratio mean? |
| By default, the program locks all photos when resizing, both the horizontal and the vertical (h&v) resize together. You can, however, change the 'aspect ratio' which will allow you to change the h&v independently. You now have the control. |
|
| Can I rotate my photos? |
| Yes! You can rotate your photos 1 degree at a time 'free rotation' by pointing to the green circle next to the top picture handle. Drag the mouse in the direction you wish to rotate. You can also rotate a photo or text to the left or right (90 degrees at a time) by right clicking on the photo and then selecting 'Rotate'. Then choose Rotate left or Rotate right. |

|
| What does the ! mean when I make a picture larger? |
| This means that the picture you have chosen is either a very low resolution or you have increased the size so large that it will not be a sharp, clear image once your project has been printed. To solve this, you must either decrease the image size on the page or replace the image with a higher resolution image. |
|
| How can I change the transparency of the photo or of the background? |
| Right click on the image and select 'Transparency'. You can then specify the degree of transparency you would like: 10% is very transparent and 90% is almost opaque. If you select transparency on an image, any other image that is below the transparency can be seen. |

|
| FAQs Global changes to a Project. |
| How can I save my product? |
There are several ways of saving your project, however, our suggestion is to set the preferences by going to the top menu bar of the program and select Options>Settings then click on the 'General' tab. On the bottom portion of the window it states 'Remind me to save my product every.' here you can select to be reminded in 5 minutes or more. Select 5 minutes, this way in the event your computer crashes all you would have lost is the last 5 minutes of designing. You can also manually save. Click on the icon, which looks like a floppy disc and is located on the icon menu bar of the program or by pressing Ctrl+S.
Another way of saving is by clicking on 'Save' under the 'File pull' down menu which is located at the top left hand side of the program.
Saving also takes place automatically when you:
close the program, or
click on 'Order'
NOTE: The product is saved under your 'My Documents' folder under the 'My Book of Photos Designer' folder. The project folder is named whatever you named your project when you started it in the design software. |
|
| How do I open a product I created earlier? |
1. After starting the MyBookOfPhotos software click on the 'open' icon at the top left hand side of the screen, or choose 'open' from the 'file' menu.
2. Double click on the folder name of the previously saved product. You will now see an .alb file with the name you specified.
3. Double click on this file to open the product in the software. |
|
| Can I move photos from one page to another? |
Yes!
. Select the photo you wish to move.
. Press Ctrl=X, which deletes (cuts) the picture and saves it on the computer clipboard.
. Select the page you want the picture on and press Ctrl+V which pastes the picture.
NOTE: Any effects done on the picture will not be lost and will be brought over to the new page. |
|
| Can I move the page sequence order? |
Yes!
However, two pages are moved at the same time.
. Select the left and right page you wish to move in the page overview at the bottom of the workspace.
. Left click and hold. Then drag your page to its new location. |
|
| What do the dotted lines at the edge of the page mean? |
| In order to insert a photo correctly over the whole of a page, we have to crop approximately 3 millimeters off the outer edge of the photo. The dotted lines indicate the crop margins. These dotted lines give an approximate indication of the crop margin. Bear in mind that the image might be shifted slightly (by no more than two millimeters). |
|
| There is red shading around the cover pages. What does that mean? |
| The red areas represent a safety margin. Only the image inside the red areas will be visible on the front of your photo book; the rest of the picture bends over the edge of the cover. This is particularly important if you plan to put text on the cover. |
|
| My title is not very visible on the cover. Why is that? |
| The cover title is not printed but is applied using laser engraving; this is a standardized process. In all honesty, we have to say that cover titles do indeed appear less readable on a light cover so we suggest using a darker color on covers or no text at all. |
|
| How do I use a different color background in the calendar? |
| On the right of the workspace you will find the 'Background' tab. Click on the light bulb that can be seen on the right hand side of the pull down menu labeled 'Colors'. A window now appears. You can either select the option 'Set background color' which will change the color background for that page only or you can select 'Set background color for current page and all subsequent pages' which will change the color background for all of the pages simultaneously. Once you have decided the mode you would like, you will see all the background colors from which you can choose. Click on the color of your choice. If you do not see your desired color, you can mix your own color by using the color pallet. Then save this mix so you can use it on other pages within your project. |
|
| The backgrounds in my product are not visible. How do I solve this? |
| Most likely once you installed My Book of Photos program editor you did not download the backgrounds. To download the backgrounds select from the pull down menu Options>Download Backgrounds. NOTE: Download all backgrounds. Each project has its own set of backgrounds. |
|
| How can I continue and complete my order on another computer? |
You can burn your project to a CD or DVD or copy it to an external drive; then you can work with it on another computer. You will need to copy the 'My Book of Photos Designer' subfolder folder containing your project to the new computer.
By Default your project will be found in your 'My Documents' folder under the 'My Book of Photos Designer' folder. The project folder is named whatever you named your project when you started it in the design software.
. Copy this entire folder to a CD, DVD or an external drive.
. Go to the other computer and Download our free custom design software from www.MyBookOfPhotos.com or use the install program you originally used when you installed it on your computer.
. Copy the project folder from the CD, DVD or an external drive to that computer.
. Open the software and click on 'Open existing product' to open your product.
Later you can click on 'Order' and go through the ordering procedure in the usual manner. |
|
| Can I make a backup of my order? |
| You can burn your project to a CD or DVD or copy it to an external drive.
You will need to copy the 'My Book of Photos Designer' subfolder folder containing your project.
By Default your project will be found in your 'My Documents' folder under the 'My Book of Photos Designer' folder. The project folder is named whatever you named your project when you started it in the design software. Copy this entire folder to a CD, DVD or an external drive. You may also simply copy the 'My Book of Photos Designer' folder under the 'My Documents' folder and back up ALL your projects. |
|
| I get the following message: 'there is insufficient memory'. What now? |
| This error message indicates that the photo files in your project are too large.
If you use scanned-in photos or if you have downloaded your images from the internet, then you must save these as JPG files in the RGB color mode with a resolution of around 300dpi. Then the quality of the photos will be satisfactory enough for use in our project software. If the photo files are too large, this can create problems when sending your project. |
|
| Can I also use my old (non' digital) photos for my project? |
| You can scan in your old photos or download pictures from other sources.
Save them as JPG files, in RGB color mode, with a resolution of around 300 dpi.
The photos will then be of sufficient quality to be used in the MyBookOfPhotos designer.
If the photo files are too large, this may cause problems when you send us your project |
|
| I get an error message as soon as I insert my photos in the product. Why is that? |
| The error message indicates that you have included excessively large photo files in your project or they are not in the proper format. You can use scanned photos or images downloaded from the Internet. Save them as JPG files, in RGB color mode, with a resolution of around 300 dpi. The photos will then be of sufficient quality to be used in the MyBookOfPhotos designer. |
|
| FAQs Ordering and the Process of Getting My Product |
| When will my order arrive? |
| In general, all orders are mailed within 5 to 7 working days from the time you order.
For example, if you place your order via the software on Friday, then it will be mailed out as soon as the following Friday. The first working day for this order will be the Monday. If a delay occurs, for example as a result of a technical malfunction or seasonal demand, we will keep you informed with an email message. |
|
| Can I edit the authoring information printed on the inside of the back cover? |
| It is not possible for you to edit or add information on the inside back cover. Your order details are the basis for that information |
|
| How are calendars packed? |
| Each calendar is packed separately in a protective envelope.
The sides of the envelope are reinforced to provide additional protection against damage during shipping. |
|
| After placing my order I closed the payment screen, but forgot to make a note of your account number and reference number. How can I obtain this information? |
| Once your order has been placed and payment has bee approved, you will receive an automated confirmation with your detailed payment information along with your order number. |
|
| How can I reorder the same product? |
| Reopen your project. Proceed as if you are ordering for the first time. |
|
| What types of payments do you accept? |
| Once you have placed your order you will be redirected automatically to the payment page. Here you can select one of the following payment methods (MasterCard, Diners Club, VISA Electron, VISA or American Express) and fill in the required fields. |
|
| What sort of photo quality (in terms of resolution, paper, copy) can I expect? |
| Your photos are printed with a resolution of 300 dpi on 150 gram gloss-coated paper using a professional printer. The print quality may be compared with that found in library books. Our software uses compression so that you can quickly carry on working with the software. This compression does not have a negative effect on the print quality. |
|
| Is there a discount when ordering 10 or more of the same project? |
Yes!
You must first contact us at: discount@mybookofphotos.com and request a 'Promotional Code.' An email will be sent to you with further instructions. |
|
| What is a promotional code and what do I do with it? |
| You can enter a promotional code (with, for example, a special discount) in the specified box during the ordering procedure. Tip: enter the code by selecting it and then copying and pasting. Make sure you don't include any superfluous spaces.
Select 'Next' to proceed with the order or 'Back' to go back a step. Click on 'Cancel' to stop the ordering procedure. |
|
| Do I receive notification as soon as my order is placed? |
Yes!
You will automatically be sent an email which will state: 'Dear Customer, You have successfully uploaded your product.' If you did not complete placing your order, the email will give you directions as to how to complete your order.
NOTE: Please do not forget to put MyBookOfPhotos.com on your 'friends' list if you are running an anti-spam program. |
|
| Do I receive a confirmation of my order/payment? |
Yes!
The moment your payment has been verified and received, you will automatically be sent a confirmation of payment from www.MyBookOfPhotos.com by email. We will then start work on your order the next business day. Please put MyBookOfPhotos on your 'friends' list if you are running an anti-spam program. |
|
| Do I receive notification when my order is shipped? |
Yes!
You will automatically receive an email 'Subject: Your order has been shipped.' (Order number: XXXXXXX) |
|
| My payment has been refunded. Why? |
| There is probably an error in the payment reference that you entered. That is why your payment could not be reconciled with your order. The amount paid by you is, therefore, automatically refunded. If this happens, please go through the ordering procedure once again. It is important that when you place your new order, you enter the correct reference number in the 'comments' field.
Once the payment has been properly processed, you will receive a confirmation email within two working days. |
|
| My order has been printed on very different paper from normal photo prints. Why is that? |
| Please keep in mind that your order should not be compared with standard photo prints. We print on semi-gloss paper rather than on glossy photo paper. The print quality is comparable with high-quality printed material. |
|
| I have received an order confirmation by email, but my order has not yet been delivered. Why is that? |
| It is possible that the delivery person found no one at home and left the package with your neighbors. If this is not the case, please contact us at support@mybookofphotos.com and forward your 'Order Confirmation' email to us with a brief explanation and we will track the package. As soon as we know what happened, we will contact you via email. |
|
| Is it possible to contact you by telephone? |
| No, because we are an online service. Questions and/or complaints cannot be dealt with by telephone. But, you can always send us an email at: support@mybookofphotos.com |
|
| How can I choose to have a photo cover? |
With all our photo books and projects you can choose between a soft or hard cover. Please note there are price differences when choosing a photo cover.
Soft cover: The cover consists of the first two pages you can see; the left-hand page is the back and the right-hand page is the front of your photo project.
Hard cover: Here you have two options: a standard hardcover or a photo hard cover.
As soon as you click on 'Order', you are given this choice. If you choose a photo hardcover, you go back to the workspace where you can compose the photo cover using your own photos. |
|
| There are gray fields instead of photos in my product. Why is that? |
1. Before placing your order you moved the copies of your photos from the 'My Documents' folder to another folder. (A copy of each inserted photo is placed in the My Book of Photos Designer folder in the 'My Documents' folder). The software can then no longer find the photo and so displays gray fields where the photos should be.
The solution is as follows: move the photos back to the relevant folder and you can place the order again.
2. During the ordering process you may have opened other programs. As a result of this, there may not have been enough memory available for the software, so that the order was not created correctly. The best solution is to place the order again without using your PC for anything else at the same time. |
|
| How can I assure the text in my product is printed in full? |
Text copied from word processing programs such as Word or WordPerfect might not 'get along' with our text formatting. You can resolve the problem as follows:
Copy the printed text from Word into a 'text editor' such as Notepad. This will strip all the extra codes Word adds to text. Then copy from Notepad and paste the text in the text field. The text will now be assured to print out in full.
NOTE: Some fonts are printed out differently from how they appear on screen. This problem does not occur if you choose a 'TrueType' font, such as Verdana, Arial or Times New Roman. Our investigations have shown that in orders created with older versions of Windows, such as Windows 95 / 98 / ME, the font information was not transmitted correctly. For this reason you can only place an order using Windows 2000 / XP / Vista; these versions do not cause any problems with fonts. |
